Wabash Valley Trust for Historic Preservation

The Wabash Valley Trust is one of the major organizations whose efforts have had wide-ranging benefits for the community but which the community often fails to recognize or support.

From a brochure: "Established in 1973, the Wabash Valley Trust for Historic Preservation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a unified effort to educate and encourage interest in the heritage and architecture of the Wabash Valley area. We subscribe to Preservation in the broadest sense, encompassing quality of life issues that effect the environment, urban districts, neighborhoods and rural areas. The Trust has not only been involved in current community issues, but has worked hard to influence the long-range future of preservation in our area.

"Just as the built environment did not evolve overnight, preservation planning takes long range vision. Not only is the Trust involved in current community issues, but we work hard to influence the long-range future of preservation in the Wabash Valley. We have created programs to educate residents on the importance of preservation. We are building networks here in our community, and with state-wide and national leaders as we strive to preserve our quality of life. It is only though your help and support that the Wabash Valley Trust for Historic Preservation can work to improve the quality of life of all residents of the Wabash Valley."

The Wabash Valley Trust is one of the major organizations whose efforts have had wide-ranging benefits for the community but which the community fails to recognize. The nominations of the Jefferson, St. Mary, Park Mary, Dayton, and New Chauncey Historic Districts to the National Register of Historic Places is only a portion (although is is very challenging and intensive work) of what the Trust has done for the community in the last few years. The renovation of the long-vacant Lafayette Theatre is a project in which the Trust has been very much involved--being half owner of the building. These are only a fraction of the accomplishments of this valuable organization. I encourage everyone to say "thank you" by supporting the Trust through annual membership. It is more than a commitment to historic preservation, it is an investment in our community's economic progress and quality of life.
