Jeptha Crouch School, officially Fairfield Township School No. 6, was built in 1901 a few miles east of Lafayette on Union Street. The building originally had a domed octagonal cupola containing a bell on the roof over the entrance. In 1927 a gymnasium was added and the building remodeled. The cupola was replaced by the present pediment and the side windows of the original building were replaced by larger steel-sash windows. A series of additions in the 1950s-1960s preceded the school's closure around 1980. It is occupied for commercial uses today, containing a furniture store and a martial arts school among its tenants.
