John B. Wagner House

Dates:

1879

Location: 420 Lingle Avenue, Lafayette, Indiana
Architect: James F. Alexander, of Lafayette, Indiana

The Lafayette Weekly Courier of August 12, 1879 reported, "Jas. Alexander, the architect, received a severe fall from a scaffold at the Wagner house, on Lingle avenue, a few days ago but is able to be about." The Wagner house is Alexander's earliest documented residential design. It remains remarkably preserved with its interior woodwork, parquet floors, marble mantels, etc., all intact.

This rare architectural drawing by James F. Alexander was featured on advertisements when the house was for sale in the 1990s. View looking south up Lingle Avenue from Romig Street. The former Wabash Railroad corridor is at left.
