Potter (Thieme & Schuessler) Building

Dates:

1901

Location: 122-126 N. Third Street, Lafayette, Indiana
Architects: J. F. Alexander & Son, of Lafayette, Indiana

This building was built in 1901 for the Potter family and for lease to the Thieme & Schuessler Co. At some point, the cornice was removed and three of the four Corinthian pilaster capitals were destroyed. This was probably to accommodate a 1950s paneled facade covering. Such remodelings were considered progressive and helped cover historic facades and give more of the appearance of suburban "big box" stores. In the 1990s the facade was uncovered. The building is presently occupied by Chumley's Pub.
