This building was the National Headquarters of the Brotherhood of Painters, Decorators & Paperhangers of America. It housed the union as well as offices for rent. It was dedicated January 25, 1922. Around the 1970s the building was occupied by the Journal and Courier, Lafayette's largest newspaper, which had outgrown the limits of its adjacent 1920 building (also by Nicol, Scholer & Hoffman). The buildings were connected by an addition at that time. The exterior of the building remained almost completely intact until about 2002. At this time the newspaper replaced all the windows on the front facade with unsympathetic vinyl windows, severely marring the building's appearance.
