The Reifer’s Furniture Co. Building was built on the site of the old Douglass Pump Works. The company was founded in 1894 and had once occupied a space in the Earl & Hatcher Block on S. Third Street. The new store opened on October 2, 1914. The company later installed a large electric sign on the corner of the building featuring a rocking chair which "rocked" as the lights flashed. The sign was relocated when the company abandoned its downtown store for a suburban warehouse. The building now houses offices and studios.
