Rotary Jails Built by Haugh, Ketcham & Co. of Indianapolis, Ind.

The Rotary Jail was invented by William H. Brown, an Indianapolis architect, and Benjamin F. Haugh, owner of an iron works in Indianapolis. The two joined with John L. Ketcham to form Haugh, Ketcham & Co., an architectural ironworks company in the Indianapolis suburb of Haughville. The company specialized in Brown & Haugh's patent Rotary Jail. This high-tech revolution in jail design was not widely adopted, and less than eighteen were ever built. Here is a collected listing of all the information I have been able to locate on these very rare buildings. Read a History of the Rotary Jail.
